Comissário ALBERT MINGAY, da Inglaterra, à esquerda, foi o diretor do ICO (Colégio Internacional de Oficiais), em Londres, quando o cursei em 1973. Sua esposa está ao meu lado, à direita.

O que tenho a contar de especial sobre este homem de Deus?

Albert Mingay foi o Chefe Territorial do The Salvation Army do  Sul da Austrália no tempo em que o filme "A hora final" (On the beach) foi filmado, exatamente em Melbourne, onde ficava a sede do Exército de Salvação. Certo dia, Mingay recebeu em seu escritório o diretor de cinema, o americano Stanley Kramer, que sondava a possibilidade de usar salvacionistas e músicos genuínos nas cenas finais de seu filme rodado em Melbourne,. Mingay aprovou. Tendo sido convidado para assistir ao ensaio dessas cenas, lá ele estava com seus soldados. Então Albert fez a sugestão ao diretor... colocar sobre o grupo de salvacionistas uma faixa com os dizeres "Ainda há tempo, irmão", o que surtiria um efeito impactante à cena final de "A hora final", filme sobre a explosão de uma bomba atômica que exterminara a populacão mundial, restando vida somente na Austrália, para onde a nuvem de radioatividade vinha se aproximando para desespero do povo. Stanley Kramer aprovou e a faixa foi colocada sobre os salvacionistas.

Durante o curso em Londres, a cada noite um delegado contava a história de como se convertera e de como se tornara salvacionista.

Chegando a minha vez, contei a história de como o filme me tocara, a ponto de ser um dos passos que me trouxe para o  Exército de Salvacão no Brasil. Assim que voltei ao meu lugar, Albert Mingay levantou-se e contou o episódio da visita do diretor Stanley Kramer ao seu escritório. 

E comentando que a faixa "Ainda há tempo, irmão" tanto me tocara naquele tarde de domingo no cinema de minha cidade, emocionou Albert Mingay.

Quando Deus quer falar-nos, Ele utiliza um filme, um diretor de cinema, uma faixa e quem e o que Ele quiser.

Aconteceu comigo!

Albert Mingay was the Territorial Chief of The Salvation Army in  South Australia at the time the movie "On the beach" was filmed, exactly in Melbourne, where the Army headquarters was located.

One day, Mingay received film director, the American Stanley Kramer, in his office, who looked at the possibility of using genuine salvationists and musicians in the final scenes of his film shot in Melbourne. Mingay approved.

Having been invited to watch the rehearsal of these scenes, he was there with his Australian salvationists. Then Albert Mingay made the suggestion to Stanley Kramer... put on the group of salvationists a banner with the words "There is still time, brother!", which would have an impact on the final scene of "On the beach", a film about the explosion of an atomic bomb that had wiped out the world population, leaving life only in Australia, where the cloud of radioactivity was approaching for people's despair. Stanley Kramer approved and the banner was placed over the salvationists.

During those days at the ICO, each night a delegate from 24 countries told his story, how he had converted and how he became a salvationist. When was my turn, I told the story of how the film "On the beach" had touched me, to the point of being one of the steps that brought me to the Salvation Army in Brazil.

As soon as I got back to my place, Albert Mingay got up and told the story of director Stanley Kramer's visit to his office.

Amazing that the ribbon "There is still time, brother!" had touched me that Sunday afternoon at the cinema in my city, which touched Albert Mingay's heart so much!

When God wants to speak to us, He uses a film, a film director, a banner and who and what He wants. It happened to me!
