A IMAGEM DE DEUS 

PERDIDA E ENCONTRADA.

Nós acreditamos que há somente um Deus, criador e preservador de todas as coisas.

Cremos que Ele nos criou.  Portanto, este mesmo Deus nos tem criado e todos temos o 

mesmo valor perante Ele.

Nós estamos acostumados a considerar que todas as pessoas não têm o mesmo valor 

neste mundo. Esquecemo-nos muitas vezes desta verdade e permanece a idéia de que 

as pessoas têm valores diferentes.

Quando Pedro compreendeu que ele havia entendido errado a pergunta, 

ele disse: 

ReconheCo por verdade que Deus não faz acepcão de pessoas; pelo contrário, em

 qualquer nacao, aquele que o teme e faz o que é justo lhe é aceitável. (Atos 10:34-35)

Deus tem criado todas as pessoas e cada uma delas é valiosa. Deus tem dado a todas
 este valor, sem fazer distincão entre uma e outra. Tudo o que Deus tem criado é bom 
e valioso.

Que valor tem então uma pessoa? Sabemos portanto que não somos "baratos"... não foi 
mediante cousas corruptíveis, como prata ou ouro, que fostes resgatados... mas pelo
 precioso sangue (1 Pedro 1:18-19). A pessoa é mais preciosa do que prata ou ouro no 
mundo. Seu valor é o do sangue de Jesus.

Esta graca de Jesus é também associada ao fato de que ela é criada à imagem de Deus.
 No princípio disse Deus: Facamos o homem à nossa semelhanca (Gênesis 1:26).

Se isto é verdade, por que é tão difícil ver a semelhanca divina nas criaturas? 
Podemos ver a imagem de Deus no nosso próximo? Ver a semelhanca de Deus em nós 
próprios? Pode ser difícil ver a imagem de Deus nas pessoas, mas cremos que Sua imagem 
está em todos nós. É difícil ver a imagem de Deus em nós porque está imagem está embacada. 
A imagem de Deus tem sido destruída por causa do pecado. Todos pecaram e carecem da 
glória de Deus. (Romanos 3:23). Temos, portanto, pecado e Sua imagem não é nítida em nós.

Porque o Filho do homem veio buscar e salvar o perdido. (Lucas 19:10). Nós cremos que a 
imagem de Deus pode ser recriada em nós. A clara imagem que desapareceu  pode ser
 reencontrada. Pode ser pelos méritos de Jesus. NEle vemos como é Deus; Jesus disse: 
Quem me vê a mim vê o Pai. (João 14:9) A imagem de Deus é vista no rosto de Cristo.

É possível que a imagem de Deus possa ser vista também em nós? Nós temos a possibilidade
 de ver a glória de Deus... E todos nós com o rosto desvendado, contemplando, como por
 espelho, a glória do Senhor, somos transformados de glória em glória, na sua própria 
imagem, como pelo Senhor, o Espírito. (2 Coríntios 3:18)

Se olhamos para Jesus somos transformados. Se fizermos isto seremos transformados 
à mesma glória. Aquilo que vemos repetidamente nos transforma. A imagem que vemos no
 jornal e pela TV causam uma impressão em nós e o que vemos pode nos transformar. 

Quão frequentemente você vê Jesus? Não nos tornaremos como Jesus se não olharmo
s para Ele suficiente e continuamente. Precisamos olhar para Jesus para saber como Ele é.
 Quando olhamos de fato para Jesus somos transformados e a imagem de Deus é vista
 com mais clareza em nós.

The Image of God: Lost and Found

We believe that there is only one God, the Creator and Governor of all things. We believe that He has created us. Because the same God has created each and every one of us, we are all worth the same before God.

We are used to the idea of people not being worth the same in this world. That is why we easily forget this truth. There are many statuses of worth in the world. When Peter understood that he had had the wrong idea about this matter, he said: "I now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism, but accepts from every nation the one who fears him and does what is right" (Acts of the Apostles 10:34-35).

Because God has created all people, each person is precious. This value is God-given, with no discrimination, nor is it dependant on people's personal skills and talents. Everything that God has created is good and precious.

How precious is man, then? We know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect (I Peter 1:18-19). People are more precious than all the silver and gold in the world. You are worth the precious blood of Christ.

This God-given value is also related to the fact that every person has been created in the image of God. In the beginning God said: "Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness" (Genesis 1:26). God created us in His image.

If this is true, why is it so hard to see God's image in people? Can we see the image of God in our neighbor? Do the others see His image in us?

It can be hard to notice God's image, but we believe that God's image is in every person. It can be difficult to distinguish because God's image in us is blurred. It has been corrupted by sin. For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). Because we have sinned, the image of God in us has disappeared.

"For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost" (Luke 19:10). We believe that the image of God in people can go back to its original form. The clear image which was lost has now been found. It has been found in Jesus. In Him we see the image of God. Jesus said: "Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father" (John 14:9). The image of God is seen in the face of Christ.

Is it possible that the image of God could also be seen in us? We have a possibility of seeing the Lord's glory. And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord's glory, are being transformed into his image. Paul explains this miracle even more specifically: with ever-increasing glory (II Corinthians 3:18).

If we look at Jesus, we change. If we do that, we change into His very same glory. What we look at transforms us. The images we watch on TV and the news influence us. What we look at changes us.

How often do you look at Jesus? We do not become like Jesus because we do not look at Him enough. We need to see Jesus in order to become like Him. When we look at Jesus, we change, and the image of God is better seen in us.
