My blacksmith father is interested in politics. He hates the Romans... he belongs to the revolucionary party.

My mother died when I was born and I was born blind. One day we met Jesus and He put His hands on my eyes and I started to see! Everything was so beautiful, specially the face of Jesus!

Minha mãe morreu quando eu nasci e eu nasci cega. Um dia encontramos Jesus e Ele colocou Suas mãos nos meus olhos e eu comecei a ver! Tudo era tão bonito, especialmente a face de Jesus!

Entering Jacob, he algo talks about Jesus, telling how He was quiet, but courageous!

Entrando Jacob, ele também conversa sobre Jesus e o quanto Ele, que era quieto, tinha coragem!

I've heard Him confront the pharisees about their bad behaviour a few times.

Eu O ouvi confrontar os fariseus sobre seu mau comportamento algumas vezes.

He compared them as if eating a camel... I imagined... big feet, long skinny legs, a hump... no two humps!!

Ele os comparou a quem come um camelo... Eu imaginei... pés grandes, pernas longas e finas, uma corcóva... não duas corcóvas!

 He's suffering now the torments of the damned up on Golgotha!

Ele agora está sofrendo os tormentos dos condenados ao Gólgota!

I had a friend who was crucified...I went near the cross and he said me: "Make them pay for this, Jacob", then he died...

Eu tive um amigo que foi crucificado... Eu fui perto da cruz e ouvi-o dizer:  "Faça-os pagar por isto, Jacob!"... então ele morreu!

It was terrible! I know that Jesus want to be avenged and I'll kill everyone who had part in this death, also the man who made the cross!

Foi terrivel! Eu sei que Jesus quer ser vingado e eu matarei cada um que teve parte nesta morte... até o homem que fez a cruz!

"Rueben, what brings you here?" "I came from Golghota, Jacob, He is dead!"

"Rueben, o que o traz aqui?"  "Eu vim do Gólgota, Jacob, Ele está morto!"

"Men don't die as quickly as that; the torments of the cross normally takes a long time". says Jacob while the women cry.

"Os homens não morrem assim tão depressa; os tormentos da cruz normalmente duram um longo tempo!", exclama Jacob enquanto as mulheres choram.

"As you know, I loved Jesus and I wanted something to remember Him. I gave the soldier my golden ring and he gave me this..."

"Como você sabe, eu amava a Jesus e queria algo para me lembrar d´Ele. Eu dei meu anel de ouro ao soldado e ele me deu isto..."

"A nail? Let me see it... No! Oh no, not that!!"

"Um prego? Deixe-me ver... Não! oh não, isto não!! "

"Father, what's the matter?? Anna, look at this nail, it has my mark on it! I made the nails that fastened Jesus to the cross!! "(Go out the scene with Rueben in great dispair)

"Pai, o que aconteceu?? Anna, olhe este prego, tem a minha marca nele! Eu fiz os pregos que prenderam Jesus à cruz!!" (Sai de cena com Rueben em grande desespero)

When Rueben returns, he tells that Jacob keeps saying "my curse came back to me!"

Quando Rueben retorna, ele conta que Jacob insiste em dizer que a sua maldição voltou-se contra ele!

Naomi suggests that they have to pray for confort and peace for Jacob.

Naomi sugere que eles devem orar por conforto e paz para Jacob.

The empty tomb is projected.

O sepulcro vazio é projetado.

Enters Levi with the news that JESUS RESSURRECTED!

Entra Levi com a nova de que JESUS RESSUSCITOU!

Enters Jacob asking "Who said that Jesus is alive?"

Entra Jacob perguntando "Quem disse que Jesus está vivo?"

"Are you sure you are not crazy, Levi? Rueben saw His dead body being taken down  from the cross!!"

"Você tem certeza de que não está louco, Levi? Rueben viu Seu corpo morto sendo retirado da cruz!!"

"Crazy no, excited yes! I met Mary Magdalene and she told me in details her encounter with Him alive, and this new is being spread all over!"

"Louco não, excitado sim! Encontrei Maria Madalena e ela contou-me com detalhes seu encontro com Ele vivo e esta nova está sendo espalhada por todo o lugar!"

"If He mentioned that she had to tell His disciples, and Peter, it means that he has pardoned Peter... perhaps I also am pardoned..." Levi tells that He pardoned also those who cruxified Him"

"Se Ele mencionou que ela deveria contar aos discípulos, destacando Pedro, certamente significa que ele está perdoado... talvez eu também esteja perdoado..." Levi conta que Jesus perdoou até os que O crucificaram!

Samuel sends a scroll to his friend Jacob telling him that he met a Man who says that Jacob is pardoned... When Samuel asked His name, He didn't say, but Samuel saw His hands..."Poor Man! It was just as if two nails had gone right through them!"

 It was JESUS! all shout with joy!

Samuel envia um pergaminho a seu amigo Jacob contando que encontrou um Homem que disse que Jacob está perdoado... Quando Samuel perguntou Seu nome, Ele não respondeu, mas ele viu Suas mãos... "Pobre Homem, era como se dois pregos as tivessem atravessado !"

Era JESUS! todos gritam com júbilo!

After Jacob saying that he is not avenging anymore, he promises that he will announce everywhere that Jesus is the Messiah and add that from now on his life life will speaks as loud as his words.

Depois que Jacob declara que ele não mais se vingará, promete que anunciará em todo o lugar que Jesus é o Messias e acrescenta que de agora em diante sua vida falará tão alto quanto suas palavras.  

"Come, children, let us thank God", he says!

"Vamos, filhos, agradecer a Deus", diz!

Where it all began and developed

O novo prédio do Quartel Internacional fica bem próximo à Catedral de São Paulo, em Londres.

The new building of the IHQ is situated very near the Saint Paul´s Cathedral, in London

 

Eu só conhecia o chamado QGI/IHQ(International Headquarters) de quando fui a primeira vez a Londres, em 1973 (a seta mostra no postal o antigo prédio da sede salvacionista, construída atualmente no mesmo local na Victoria Street).
I've been in the old Headquarters, in 1973.



Em anos recentes, na última vez em que estive em Londres, chegou a minha vez de visitá-lo, tendo por guia pelo lindo prédio a comissária Sylvia Cox, esposa do general André Cox, ambos chefes nacionais da Finlândia há alguns anos não muito distantes.

In recent years I visited the new building and Comissioner Sylvia Cox, General André Cox's wife,  patiently showed me ev'ry different department of the beautiful and modern building.

O Exército de Salvação, em seu lindo prédio envidraçado, é também visitado por muitos salvacionistas do mundo inteiro quando vão a Londres. Acima, o departamento chamado Centro de Herança/Heritage Center.

O Heritage Center, que contatei pela Internet, atendeu de muito bom gosto ao meu importante pedido que foi o de conseguir o script em inglês de uma peça teatral que encenei algumas vezes no Brasil durante o meu ministério - o roteiro na nossa língua, pena, acabou sendo perdido.  A responsável, uma oficial aposentada, na carta que me enviou junto ao roteiro abaixo, em inglês, louvou a Deus um tanto emocionada pelo fato de alguém se interessar em "ressuscitar" as antigas peças teatrais salvacionistas! Tão populares e utilizadas eram que havia até uma publicação (acima) chamada The International Senior Demonstrator, algumas enviadas pelos correios por ela juntamente com o script que eu havia pedido.

At Heritage Center I requested a script in English of the drama "The Nail". The responsible retired officer in that occasion became literally moved that someone were planning to "ressurrect" the old blessed plays published in the International Senior Demonstrator (bellow), received by post after some weeks.

A peça em português levou o nome "O Ferreiro", e seu autor foi o Brigadeiro F.A.Evans.

The play in Portuguese was called "The Blacksmith"; his author was Brigadier F.A.Evans.

Estas fotos têm história...  Traduzida e dirigida pela então-capitã Maria Eliasen (foto abaixo com o diretor do Colégio de Cadetes, o então-Capitão Carl Eliasen), direto do The International Senior Demonstrator, foi apresentada quando eu era cadete do segundo-ano, no salão social do Corpo Central, em 1965. Sou o "ferreiro" ajoelhado na cena final. 

These photos have a story... It was the first performance of "The Nail" in Brazil, translated and directed by Maria Eliasen (the wife of our Training Principal) when I was a second-year cadet, in 1965. I'm the blacksmith knelt down in the last glorious scene of the play.

Cinco anos mais tarde, em 1971, apresentei "O Ferreiro" com jovens de Brasília-DF (a propósito, fui eu que mandei fazer as letras "em ferro" para identificação do ES na L-2, zona sul, o que combina com o "Ferreiro"), e também alguns que fizeram teatro conosco, em outras peças, estão aí, Denise Milfont, uma estrela da Rede Globo e seu irmão, hoje um cantor de sucesso.

In 1971, five years later, I performed "The Nail" as a Corps Officer in our capital Brasilia Corps. The name SA in iron was made in my time over there.

Já casado, no ano de 1975, em Rio Grande-RS, fui novamente o ferreiro na peça.

Once again, now married, I did the same drama in Rio Grande Corps in 1975.

A cena mais dramática da peça... Jacob descobre que ele foi quem fez os pregos que prenderam Jesus à cruz!

The most dramatic moment of "The Nail"... Jacob discovers that the nails that fastened Jesus to the cross were made by him!

Na sequência, imagine, 48 anos depois, em 2023, apresentei "O Ferreiro" em inglês na Fellowship Internacional da Igreja Livre que frequento na cidade onde moramos, Hämeenlinna, sul da Finlândia.

Then, imagine, 48 years later, in 2023, I presented "The Nail" in English at the Free Church International Fellowshipthat I attend in the city where we live, Hämeenlinna, southern Finland.

Well, what's the veredict?

Anna, qual foi o veredito?

They are going to crucify Him.

Eles vão crucificá-lo.

Oh, no, God won't allow such an injustice!

Oh, não, Deus não permitirá tal injustica!

Naomi, a friend o the family, comes in and talks with Anna...

Naomi, uma amiga da famíla, entra e conversa com Anna...

Anna, forgive me, ... but is your father a disciple of Jesus?

Anna, perdoe-me... mas seu pai é um discípulo de Jesus?

 My mother died when I was born, and I was born blind...

Minha mäe morreu quando eu nasci, e eu nasci cega...

A famous Egiptian doctor couldn't heal me, but Jesus did!

Um famoso doutor egípcio não conseguiu curar-me, mas Jesus sim!

That's the reason he loves him, although he is not a follower of Jesus like Peter and others.

Esta é a razão por que o ama, mas ele não é um seguidor de Jesus, como Pedro e outros.

Jacob comes in and talks with them, remembering how Jesus was quiet but very corageous!  "I couldn't do anything to save him, but I will avenge him, I promise! ... A knife in the back of these men in a dark night... this is what they deserve!"

Entra Jacob e conversa com elas, lembrando o quanto Jesus era quieto, mas muito corajoso! "Eu não pude fazer nada para salvá-lo, mas eu me vingarei de sua morte, eu prometo! ... Uma faca nas costas desses homens em uma noite escura... isto é o que eles merecem!"

But supposing Jesus didn't want to be avenged. Didn't you ever hear him speak of forgiving one's enemies?

Mas suponhamos que Jesus não queira ser vingado. Você nunca o ouviu falar de perdoar seus inimigos?

Yes. I did! And anyway; now I guess he will want to be avenged. I had a friend once who was crucified. Before he died, he said to me: "Make them pay for this, Jacob!" Then he died.

Sim, eu ouvi! Mas agora eu imagino que ele queira ser vingado. Tive um amigo que foi cruciicado. Antes de morrer, ele me disse: "Jacob, faca-os pagar por isto!" Então ele morreu.

Then, Reuben, a follower of Jesus, comes in and tells that he was at the crucifixion scene. After Jesus died, he asked one of the soldier to give him something to remember Jesus and he gave me this...

Então, entra Reuben, um seguidor de Jesus, e conta que esteve na cena da crucificacão. Depois que Jesus morreu, ele pediu a um dos soldados que lhe desse algo que lhe fizesse lembrar de Jesus e ele me deu isto...

What is it, Reuben? A nail? Oh, my God, not that!! This nail has my mark!!

O que é isto, Reuben? Um prego? Oh, meu Deus, isto não!  Este prego tem a minha marca!

"I made the nails that fastened Jesus to the cross! Oh, no!"

"Eu fiz os pregos que prenderam Jesus à cruz! Oh, não!"

Jacob abandoned the scene in terrible despair, for he has promised to avenge everyone that had part in the crucifixion ...also the man who made the cross!!

Jacob abandona a cena em terrível desespero, porque ele havia prometido vingar-se de todos os que tivessem tido parte na crucificacão, também o homem que fizera a cruz!!

Naomi gives comfort to Anna, who cries, worried for her father´s situation, fearing that something very bad can happen to him.

Naomi conforta Anna, que chora preocupada pela situacão de seu pai, temendo que algo muito ruim possa acontecer a ele.

Suddenly, comes in Mary Magdalene, with the bombastic news that 

JESUS IS ALIVE!

De repente, entra Maria Madalena, com a bombástica notícia que 

JESUS ESTÁ VIVO!

And tells them in details what she saw and also that Jesus personnally talked with her, including that he said "Go and tell my disciples, and Peter, that I am going to Galilee!" Jacob feels surprise that he mentioned Peter, who denied Him,... and say that perhaps he was perdoned as well... Mary Magdalene added that Jesus pardoned also those who crucified Him.

E conta em detalhes o que viu e também que Jesus falara com ela pessoalmente, inclusive que dissera: "Vá e conte aos meus discïpulos, e a Pedro,  que estou indo à Galiléia!"  Jacob ficou surpreso que Jesus mencionara a Pedro, que O negara, e diz que talvez ele seja perdoado também... Maria Madalena acrescenta que Jesus perdoara também os que o cruciicaram. 

A boy knocks at the door saying that a man has sent a message to Jacob... that Jacob is pardoned, only that. And added:  "I don't know who he is, but when he put his hands on my head, I saw a mark on them. Poor man!  It was just as if two big nails has gone right through them!"

Um menino bate à porta dizendo que um homem mandou uma mensagem a Jacob... que Jacob está perdoado, somente isto, E acrescenta: "Eu não sei quem ele é, mas quando ele colocou suas mãos sobre minha cabeca, eu vi nelas uma marca. Pobre homem! Era como se dois grandes pregos haviam atravessado nelas!

All them come to the same conclusion that it was Jesus!

Todos eles chegam à mesma conclusão de que era Jesus!

"I am pardoned", say Jacob, "my heart is so happy!"

"Eu fui perdoado", diz Jacob, "meu coracão está tão feliz!"

"From now on", he promises, "I am going to proclaim everywhere that Jesus is the Messiah, and I will see that my life speaks as loud as my words!"

"De agora em diante", ele promete, " eu proclamarei em todos os lugares que Jesus é o Messias e farei com que minha vida fale tão alto quanto minhas palavras!"

"Come, let us thank God!"

"Venham, vamos agradecer a Deus!"

Meus netos que moram na Finlândia estavam presentes na apresentacão na Igreja Livre em Hämeenlinna. E um dia, olhando para esta foto no exato local da  apresentacão, veio-me a ideia: "por que não apresentar o drama com eles?" (Na verdade, creio que foi o Espírito Santo Quem me deu a ideia!).

My grandchildren who live in Finland were present at the presentation at the Free Church in Hämeenlinna. And one day, looking at this photo at the exact  performance location, the idea came to me: "Why not present 'The Nail* with them?" (Truly, I believe that it was the Holy Spirit Who gave me the idea!)

Na entrevista no Quartel Nacional apresentei meu novo projeto aos líderes nacionais... formar um grupo de teatro com meus netos. Sabendo que a Coronel Saga gosta de teatro, a conversa foi muito facilitada. Então, seu esposo adiantou-se e sugeriu: "Vocês poderiam se apresentar no Congresso, hein?"

In the interview at the Territorial Quarter I presented my new project to the national leaders... forming a theater group with my grandchildren. Knowing that Colonel Saga likes theatre, the conversation was much easier. Then, her husband came forward and suggested: "You could present yourselves in Congress, isn't it?"

E como não poderia deixar de ser, no mesmo dia do convite contatei o eficiente salvacionista Tobbe,  expert em assuntos técnicos, conhecido das muitas apresentacões do International Open Gospel Choir, coral que iniciei com sucesso que atraiu centenas de jovens adultos ao Templet sueco no início dos anos 2000. Esta foi nossa nomeacão quando chegamos do Brasil em 1999.

And as expected, at the same day of the invitation  I contacted the efficient salvationist Tobbe, an expert in technical matters, known from the many performance of the International Open Gospel Choir, a choir that I started with success that attracted hundreds of young adults to the Swedish Templet in the early 2000s. This was our first appointment when we arrived from Brazil in 1999.

Meus caros netos aceitaram o desafio do vô Paulo e ensaiaram o script entre eles  ou comigo em diversas ocasiões... até que chegou o grande dia da apresentacão no Congresso de Verão. 

My dear grandchildren accepted Grandpa Paulo's challenge and rehearsed the script among themselves or with me on several occasions... until the big day of the presentation arrived at the Summer Congress.
