O General ERIK WICKBERG (1904-1996), nascido na Suécia, foi o nono general do Exército de Salvação e exerceu o seu mandato de 1969 a 1974.

The General ERIK WICKBERG (1904-1996), born in Sweden, was the 9th general of the Salvation Army and was at the office from 1969 to 1974.

A propósito, General é o chefe mundial da nossa obra. Só existe um, que equivale ao Papa católico. Os demais que já ocuparam este cargo máximo, se não morreram, estão aposentados.

By the way, a General is an international leader of  the SA. There is only one General, like a catholic Pope. Others that occupied this high position, if they are not dead, they are retired.

How I knew him?...

Quando fiz o curso para oficiais (ICO) em Londres, em 1973, fui fotografado com ele em grupo e com os delegados da América Latina, grande privilégio que considero.

When I went to the International College for Officers (ICO) in London, in 1973, I was photografted with him, in group or with the Latin American delegates, a great priviledge.

O General foi ao Brasil e foi recepcionado em sueco.

The General went to Brazil and was saluted in Swedish.

I did read the text bellow about him:

"Foi em 1933 e o capitão Wickberg, de 29 anos, trabalhava na Áustria. Naquela época, o trabalho salvacionista na Áustria era supervisionado pela Alemanha, com o quartel-general em Berlim. Devido à tensão existente antes do Anschluss, quando Hitler invadiu a Áustria, não era fácil para os alemães obterem vistos de saída. Sendo que Wickberg possuía o passaporte sueco, de um país neutro, foi-lhe pedido por seu superior uma delicada tarefa que exigia muita coragem."

"It was in 1933 and Captain Wickberg, 29, worked in Austria. At that time, salvationist work in Austria was supervised by Germany, with headquarters in Berlin. Descobriu-se que um tenente salvacionista era membro do partido nazista e usava o uniforme das tropas de storm. Wickberg imediatamente desfez a nomeação do tenente e o enviou para casa, na Alemanha, no primeiro trem disponível."

"Certain rumors needed to be investigated and important decisions had to be made. Since contact with Berlin would not be possible, Wickberg went to Vienna in place of its leader, with the authority of London headquarters to support him. And so the fears were confirmed. It turned out that a salvationist lieutenant was a member of the Nazi party and wore the uniform of storm troops. Wickberg immediately undid the lieutenant's appointment and sent him home to Germany on the first  available train."
