Alida Margaretha Bosshardt (Utrecht, 1913 - Amsterdã, 2007), mais conhecida como Major Bosshardt, era uma oficial bem conhecida do Exército de Salvação, e mais ou menos a face pública desta organização cristã na Holanda.

Bosshardt tornou-se membro do Exército de Salvacão depois de visitar uma de suas reuniões quando tinha 18 anos. Antes disso, ela não era religiosa. Seu pai era um católico romano convertido, sua mãe era uma reformada holandesa. A partir de 1934, ela trabalhou em um lar infantil em Amsterdã. Durante a ocupacão alemã na Segunda Guerra Mundial, Bosshardt cuidou das criancas, em sua maioria judia, que seus pais trouxeram para casa. Alida fundou um centro para recuperar prostitutas na Red Line em Amsterdam.

Alida Margaretha Bosshardt (Utrecht, 1913 – Amsterdam, 2007), better known as Major Bosshardt, was a well known officer in The Salvation Army, and more or less the public face of this Christian organization in the Netherlands.

Bosshardt became a member of the Salvation Army after visiting one of their meetings when she was 18. Before that, she was not religious. Her father was a converted Roman Catholic, her mother was Dutch Reformed. From 1934 she worked in a children's home in Amsterdam. During the German occupation in the Second World War, Bosshardt took care of the mostly Jewish children who had been brought by their parents to the home. Alida founded a center to recover prostitutes on the Red Light in Amsterdam.

Como a conheci?

De fato, eu a vi no meio da multidão que lotava o Auditório Wembley durante o congresso em Londres, em 1978. Estranho-me a mim mesmo por não ter me aproximado dela para conversar ou somente cumprimentá-la.

In fact, I saw her in the crowd that filled the Wembley Auditorium during the International Congress in 1978, in London. I am suprised at myself for not having approached her to talk or just to greet her.

The last but not the least

O primeiro Corpo em cuja reunião estive fora do Brasil foi o Corpo de Utrecht, em 1973, na cidade onde nasceu Alida.

The first Corps whose meeting I was outside of Brazil was the Corps of Utrecht, in 1973, in the city Alida was born.
