How I knew them...

Chegando ao Brasil, nos anos 50, estabeleceram-se em Pelotas-RS, minha cidade. Estudando no mesmo colégio que meu melhor amigo, logo fomos apresentados e nos tornamos amigos também. 

Arriving in Brazil, in the 50s, they settled in Pelotas-RS, my city. Studying at the same college as my best friend, we were soon introduced and became friends too.

A grande casa onde moraram. Como jovens, ficamos muito entusiasmados por termos amigos holandeses e os visitamos muitas vezes e eles a nós.

Passeamos juntos, fomos ao cinema juntos... éramos inseparáveis. Com o irmão mais velho, que mora hoje na Nova Zelândia, falei inglês pela primeira vez na festa de casamento de minha irmã.  O segundo irmão  tornou-se bom amigo meu e de minha irmã. Troquei muitos selos com os "holandeses", pois tinhamos boas colecões.

The big house where they lived. As young people, we were very excited to have Dutch friends and visited them many times and they visited us. We went to the cinema together and we were inseparable. With their older brother, who lives in New Zealand today, I spoke English for the first time at my sister's wedding party. The second one, became my sister's and my good friend. I exchanged many stamps with them, good collectors.

Com excecâo do mais velho, que vive na Nova Zelândia, todos se casaram com brasileiras e vivem no Brasil com suas famílias.

With the exception of the eldest, who lives in New Zealand, all married Brazilian women and live in Brazil  with their families.

 

Fui muitas vezes à Holanda, o que jamais imaginaria no tempo quando éramos amigos.

I went many times to Holland, what I'd never imagined on that time when we were friends.

Herman Claudius van Riemsdijk (Tiel, 26 de agosto de 1948) é um enxadrista brasileiro nascido nos Países Baixos, Mestre Internacional de Xadrez pela FIDE, autor de diversos artigos sobre o enxadrismo.^[1]

Foi campeão brasileiro em 1970, 1973 e 1988 e vice-campeão em 1975, 1976, 1977 e 1995.

Representou o Brasil em onze edições da Olimpíadas de Xadrez.^[2]

Herman Claudius van Riemsdijk (Tiel, 26 August 1948) is a Brazilian chess player born in the Netherlands, International Chess Master by FIDE, author of several articles on chess. [1] He was Brazilian champion in 1970, 1973 and 1988 and runner-up in 1975, 1976, 1977 and 1995. He represented Brazil in eleven editions of the Chess Olympics. [2]
