História:


Escrevi este poema em inglês no dia 3 de setembro de 2001, somente uma semana antes da tragédia que derrubou as torres do World Trade Center.
Surpreso com a coincidência, pedi ao meu amigo Timo-Matti Haapiainen, que cantava no International Open Gospel Choir, a que compusesse uma música para ele. Ele o fez e cantamos no coral em diversas ocasiões naqueles dramáticos meses que se seguiram à tragédia que abalou o mundo.


Story:

This poem I wrote in English on September 3, 2001, just a week before the tragedy of the World Trade Center. Surprised with the coincidence, I asked my friend Timo-Matti Haapiainen to compose a music for it. He did that and we presented in several occasions with the International Gospel Choir during those dramatic months after the tragedy that shocked the world.



As the snow covered the street
And the lights shone everywhere,
How splendid was the scene,
As a fantasy in the air!
Then, involved in that dream,
I forgot reality:
Far away there's war and crying,
People suffering, poverty...


Then a strange feeling came
Trying to convince my mind:
"This is not our reality,
Why worry? Put it aside!"
It's too late, I realized,
For my eyes have looked around:
Lonely people, drunk, depressed,
In my neighborhood I found...


Christmas has a wonderful reality:
Jesus Christ was born to save humanity.
Never more will I forget this holy fact;

For your sake, Lord, I will fight and I will act.


A Realidade do Natal


Caia a neve e cobria as ruas
E em cada canto havia luz a piscar;
Que esplêndida era a cena,
Como fantasia no ar!
Envolvido naquele sonho,
Da realidade me esqueci:
Longe há guerras, choro
E pobreza, mas não aqui...


Então um estranho sentimento se infiltrou,
Tentando minha mente convencer:
"Essa não é a nossa realidade, aqui,
Preocupar-me, então, por quê?"
Tarde demais, conclui;
Meus olhos já olharam ao redor:
Pessoas solitárias, bêbadas, em depressão,
Encontro em todos os lugares, em profusão...


O Natal encerra uma maravilhosa realidade:
Jesus Cristo nasceu para salvar a humanidade.
Nunca mais deste fato me esquecerei;

Por Tua Causa, Senhor, agirei e lutarei!
